What is a Family Nature Club?
Inspired by the work of Richard Louv—who sparked a movement to reconnect children with the natural world with his best selling book, The Last Child in the Woods,—we’re excited to bring this vision to our local community. A Family Nature Club is a simple idea with a big impact: families coming together to explore the outdoors, play, and build community.
There’s no pressure, no cost—just time in nature with new and old friends.
Why join?
-
More fun together: Kids love exploring with friends, and parents enjoy connecting too.
-
Easier to get outside: We remove the “where should we go?” barrier by planning for you.
-
Rooted in community: You’ll discover local trails, parks, and natural areas.
-
A dose of joy: Nature time reduces stress, sparks creativity, and strengthens family bonds.

Who is it for?
Everyone! Parents, grandparents, caregivers, and children of all ages. Families come as they are—mud boots, baby slings, and curious minds welcome.
How does it work?
-
We’ll meet once a month at a local park, preserve, or trail.
-
Register to let us know you are coming and to sign a participation waiver.
-
Each gathering lasts about 2 hours, unless hazardous weather cuts our time short.
-
Activities are simple: a nature walk with magnifying glasses, a scavenger hunt looking for minibeasts, or unstructured play in the woods.
-
Bring water, snacks, and outdoor clothes—everything else is provided by nature.
